(Community Research Efforts Evaluating Key Water Indicators and Stream Ecology)
Project CREEKWISE is an after school class offered to all 7-12th grade students. Classes occurred four days a week for approximately two hours each day. During that time students learned about key water quality indicators and performed assessments on local tributaries. Most of our time was spent creating a sensitivity index related to the diversity of macroinvertebrates in Ionia County streams. Students colledted samples of macroinvertebrates and then returned to the lab to identify and quantify their populations. Students also assessed fecal coliform levels in local waterways using MacConkey agar.
