Aquaponics at Saranac Schools

The aquaponics system at Saranac Schools started as a summer school construction class. A group of five students spent 6 weeks designing, planning, constructing, and opperating the system. It is currently used in the high school biology class to learn about biogeochemical cycles, ecosystem interations, natural resources, nutrient inputs, life cycles, and energy. Currently the system is home to rainbow trout.
