The Pumpkin Prayer (Poem)

Dear Jesus,

As I carve my pumpkin, help me pray this prayer:

Open my mind so that I can learn about You;

(with your finger, trace around the top of the pumpkin)

Take all my sin and forgive the wrong that I do.

(think about this as you clean out the inside)

Open my eyes so Your love I will see;

(with your finger, trace eyes shaped like hearts on your pumpkin)

I’m sorry for times I’ve turned up my nose at what You’ve given to me.

(trace a nose on your pumpkin in the shape of a cross)

Open my ears so Your word I will hear;

(trace ears shaped like a Bible)

Open my mouth to tell others You’re near.

(trace a mouth in the shape of a fish)

Let Your light shine in all I say and do!

(imagine and remember this as you place a candle inside and light it)

IN YOUR BIBLE: Look up Matthew 5:16

• Type or write out the verse above and attach it to the stem of the pumpkin as a reminder to live our lives for God and his glory.

CARVING PUMPKINS: This week we are carving pumpkins for Hearth & Home Assisted Living Center in Vandalia. The residents and their families absolutely love the variety of creations that are delivered to decorate the facility.

You (and your family) are encouraged to carve a pumpkin(s) and deliver it to:

Hearth & Home Assisted Living | 55 Great Hill Rd, Dayton 45414

• No contact needed - just place your pumpkin in a decorative spot near the front entrance area. They are aware that youth/families will be placing carved pumpkins around the entrance there.

SERVICE CREDIT: If you would like to receive 1 hour of service credit for this activity, please take a picture of you and your pumpkin at the assisted living center and send it to me via email: epope@scpchurch.org

CLOSING PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for the opportunity to serve you today. I pray that others are reminded of your love and the abundant hope and mercy you freely give us. May this service project bless others in your love. *Pray one Fatima Prayer* Amen.
