Here is brief overview of some essential study skills. As you grow in applying these within our math class, they can lead to success in other areas of life as well.
1. Q and A: Ask Questions and Get Answers
Lifelong learners love times of Q and A (question-and-answer). Don't rest content if there is something you still cannot understand. The more questions you ask, the faster you will improve. All your question-and-answer sessions are building a foundation of understanding beyond the normal.
2. Practice Builds Confidence
Embrace doing homework: it is a special, unique opportunity to use the language of math. To improve in any language requires usage and practice.
3. Use Note Cards
Note cards are a tool to memorize math rules and their specific application(s). Ask your instructor for a few examples, if this is something you wish to incorporate for math success..
4. Teaching to Learn
Teaching to learn is called "The Protege Effect." The effort to it takes to express concepts in a clear fashion also forces our minds to understand the particulars of a subject at a deeper level. This is one of the reasons your instructor asks you to teach the pretest/study guide problems to an audience. While this is a bigger time commitment, it will pay off in the future.

5. Your Brain on Music
Playing an instrument and listening to music are still other aspects of developing a mind that can think and adapt under various challenges. We will post supporting videos soon! Until then, students should consider listening to the music of accomplished classical composers while doing homework (at a volume loud enough to hear, yet without disrupting your train of thought).
