From Pi Day 2018, a beautiful design, with an 8-foot diameter,
almost spans the entire sidewalk at the outside pick-up-and-drop-off area.
Pi Day may be the ultimate one-period field trip. (At least when one considers field trips that are math-related).
The excitement is electric—the fun and the joy contagious—as students stay right on campus and make larger-than-life circles using string-and-chalk compasses on the sidewalks and patio areas of SPA. The results are an amazing orchestra of beauty and creativity.
The artistic results are a major accomplishment for the student teams who complete their designs in a 50-minute class period, and the entire experience is a profound, hands-on exercise in da Vinci creativity.
Below are a number of files, including pictures, so students can generate ideas across the school year as we anticipate Pi Day 2023, which is planned to happen as near as possible to 3-14 (usually a day or two after spring break).
Next up and just below: a Pi Day picture album!
