GFDC is a targeted intervention and support service tailored to meet the needs of children under guardianship of the Chief Executive (DCP) providing an alternate short
term quality care placement option for 24/7 (24-hours a day, 7-days a week and/or
negotiated part-time hours). GFDC is provided within a home/family-based
environment that is safe and dependable to assist with the positive recovery from
experience of harm, abuse and/or neglect and supports a reduction of children placed
in non-family based care arrangements’.
The GFDC program places:
children under the guardianship of the Chief Executive (DCP) who are less than 13 years of age and have no alternate family based placement option available
siblings together, where possible
children with a primary carer until a long-term care placement is secured, they are reunified with their parents (reunification) or secure a foster care or kinship care placement.
The GFDC experience has enriched my life and strengthened my attuned responsiveness to the children. The children teach me constantly, and I am grateful for how this experience develops me.
I am really enjoying being a back up carer for the guardianship program. I love that I can provide a service to help our full time carers have a break from the fantastic job they are providing in carIng for our vulnerable children, and that I too am able to positively contribute to their upbringing. It has been a very rewarding experience for me.
On joining the GFDC program I didn't know what to expect. On the journey over the past 6 years I have learnt a lot. Diversity respect friendship and family.
The GFDC program has fulfilled a dream of mine in enriching the lives of children it is extremely satisfying knowing you have made a difference, if you are a fun loving and energetic person and truly love children there is no better way to enjoy life than with ahome full of love and laughter.
Having the 2 guardianship children in my care for near on 2 years, changed my life for the better. Watching their growth from where they came from, to where they were when they left me, both girls grew in my family life & felt nurtured, loved & accepted as part of our own family. Myself & my 2 daughters still see the sisters & will hope they stay in contact with us. All round a very rewarding experience.
