Red is the first step in the writing process. We are teaching the students to draw clear characters using shapes. They are also adding facial expressions to the characters.
When a student is on yellow, not only is the picture readable(it tells a story), the student will also begin to add details to the illustration so the setting is clear. The student can clearly state who the characters are and where the story takes place.
Green would be considered on level at the end of the year. Students must have a clear verbal expression of the characters, setting, and events. The illustration must match the verbal expression.
When a student is blue, they are beginning to write sentences. The sentence(s) might not be 100 percent correct, but it is readable. ( The reader knows that prk means park.)
Purple would be used in a small group with children who are writing clear meaningful sentences at the end of the year. These standards are considered first grade level. Students may also express a characters feelings.
