Writing

In the beginning of the year, students start with telling a story through pictures.

They may attempt to write labels and a sentence. Students should be able to verbalize characters, setting, and events that make sense.

Students label illustrations with beginning sounds or words. Sentences start to have meaning.

Students can express an opinion through writing or verbalization. Their illustrations have more details. Labels are more complete. Sentences have meaning. Sentences begin with capital letters, have spaces between words, and punctuation at the end.
