In Kindergarten, we focus on the Pre-primer list and the Primer list. Students should know about 100 frequently used words by sight, by the end of kindergarten. You will see that the words are categorized into red and green words. As students learn letters and sounds, they will see that they can start to sound out the green words. The red words will not follow the simple phonics rules we have been learning. Students should look for the parts of the words they know to help them, however, some of the words will need to be memorized. Students will be asked to start practicing and memorizing words within the first few weeks of kindergarten. Students will be given 3 to 5 words a week. Below you will find a slide show to practice the words. We also ask that you keep a case with the sight words at home. Please practice daily as part of the homework.
