Welcome Letter

School Year 2025-2026

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! We would like to take this opportunity to welcome each of you to Marine Park JHS 278

Parents’ Association (PA). As PA executive board members, it is among our responsibilities to talk with you about our organization, and very importantly, encourage you to get involved in our school. But first, since this may be the first time at Marin Park JHS 278, for some of you, it is important for us to explain what the PA is all about.

Our primary objective as a PA is to provide our schools with funds, programs, resources and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child. To meet this important objective and afford services that may not be covered by our school budget, we must fundraise. Though it may not be our favorite responsibility, it is a necessary one. We wish to hold bake sales, book fairs, snack sales, and hold family events. All our fundraising requests will be discussed at our first PA Meeting and throughout the year.

Our PA strives to enhance children’s educational experiences by asking for a donation of $10 or more per family. Membership donations are requested as a contribution and not as a requirement of membership. It also does not affect voting or running for office. It just helps us to get closer to our goal. All parents, guardians, and parents in parent relation are automatically members of the PA. Please give what you can.

As you can see, we are a busy group. This is where you can come in! We need your help, and so do our students. We hope that this school year provides additional opportunities to engage with you through meaningful volunteer opportunities and school events. The PA is looking forward to sponsoring many exciting events throughout the year and we are always looking for volunteers to assist in making these events a success and a positive experience for the students. Volunteering doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. We understand it is increasingly more difficult to find time to give, but please, whatever your time schedule allows, we have need of you. We even have tasks that can be performed in the evenings, during the day or that don’t even involve coming to the school at all. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the volunteer form and email it to scardona2@doeexternal.nyc or drop off in the main office. Please consider volunteering. Get involved TODAY!

Our parent group is certainly about more than bake sales! We’re about people working together toward a common goal. That goal, simply stated, is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, and support staff can do their best work – and so can our children. There is so much more that can be done and we need your help. We invite you to join us for our first PA Meeting on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 7:00 PM virtually (zoom). We look forward to meeting you!
