Dual Language Education: All of our students learn all subjects in English and in Spanish, with half of each day in each language, adding a second academic language to our kids.  Learn more

Progressive Education: We learn by doing. We learn collaboratively with other folks. We engage with each other in ways that focus on our community.  

• Student-led: We embrace student choice in learning to foster innovation, self-expression and empowerment. We strive for students to grapple with how they want to use the skill sets they are building. Additionally, we focus on growth and not testing. Learn more

• Experiential: Regular out of classroom experiences such as skating, swimming, and forest school provide shared challenge, excitement, and wonder for our students and build the confidence that together, with practice, we can do hard things. Learn more

• Mixed-Age: Mixed-age groupings challenge artificial boundaries, require teachers to consider each student as an individual along a learning continuum, and enable students the opportunity to break out of a fixed role in the classroom setting. Inclusive Education: We can all learn from and with each other. Our classrooms are inclusive of students across a range of learning styles and needs. All children are supported accordingly, preparing our students to collaborate effectively in all kinds of environments throughout their lives.

Anti-Racist Education: Our curriculum and instruction not only name racism as a reality that impacts all of us, but they provide our kids with critical questioning and thinking to push back against this system. Our staff work in responsive and age-appropriate ways to actively counter racism wherever we experience it. 

Community: We prioritize supporting each other in community, and the respect and care the students demonstrate for each other is deeply inspiring. Together we share songs in weekly Community Sing, snowballs on the first snowy morning, and ideas about how we can best support our children's growth.

Confidence: Classroom recitals provide each student an opportunity to speak, sing, recite, perform for their peers each week, building self-confidence and community within each class. A pre-K or Kindergarten student will build the confidence to introduce themselves and tell a joke in a language that may be new to them, and by 5th grade, a student may be sharing their own poem or reciting a historical speech that resonates with them. Our weekly recitals encourage our kids to “recognize their intrinsic value and agency” (Castle Bridge school vision).

Educación progresista: Aprendemos haciendo. Aprendemos colaborando con los demá. Nos comprometemos entre nosotros de manera que  podamos enfocarnos en nuestra comunidad.

• Dirigida por estudiantes: Reconocemos que la capacidad de elegir de les estudiantes fomenta la innovación, la autoexpresión y les motiva a aprender. Nos esforzamos por que les estudiantes sean quienes decidan cómo quieren usar el conjunto de habilidades que están desarrollando. Además, nos enfocamos en su crecimiento y no en evaluaciones. • Experimental: Las experiencias fuera del aula, como patinar, nadar y la escuela forestal, ofrecen retos compartidos, entusiasmo y generan la confianza de que juntes, con la práctica, podemos hacer cosas difíciles. Más información

• Edad mixta: Los grupos de edades mixtas desafían los límites artificiales existentes, requieren que les maestres consideren a cada estudiante como un individuo durante el aprendizaje continuo y brindan la oportunidad de romper con los roles fijos en el salón de clases. Actualmente, tenemos salones que agrupan dos años (K/1, 2/3 y 4/5), y nuestro salón de prekínder. Más información

Educación inclusiva: Todes podemos aprender de y con les demás. Nuestras aulas incluyen estudiantes de una variedad de estilos y necesidades de aprendizaje. Todes les niñes reciben el apoyo correspondiente, preparando a nuestres estudiantes para colaborar de manera efectiva en todo tipo de entornos a lo largo de sus vidas.

Educación antirracista: Nuestro plan de estudios e instrucción no solo mencionan el racismo como una realidad que nos afecta a todos, sino que les brindan a nuestres niñes preguntas y pensamientos críticos para rechazar este sistema. Nuestro personal trabaja de manera receptiva y apropiada a la edad para contrarrestar activamente el racismo dondequiera que lo experimentemos.

Orientada a la comunidad: El apoyo mutuo en la comunidad es nuestra prioridad; el respeto y el cuidado que les estudiantes demuestran entre sí es profundamente inspirador. Juntes compartimos canciones en el Canto Comunitario semanal, bolas de nieve después de la primera nevada e ideas sobre cómo podemos apoyar mejor el crecimiento de nuestres hijes.

Ayuda a fortalecer la confianza en sí mismes: Los recitales en las clases brindan a cada estudiante la oportunidad de hablar, cantar o actuar en frente de sus compañeres cada semana, lo que genera seguridad en sí mismes y una comunidad dentro de la clase. Un estudiante de prekínder o kínder desarrollará la confianza para presentarse y contar un chiste en un idioma que puede ser nuevo y, para cuando esté en quinto grado, podrá compartir sus propios poemas o recitar un discurso histórico que le llame la atención. Nuestros recitales semanales alientan a nuestres niñes a "reconocer su valor intrínseco y su dominio propio" (visión de la escuela Puente del Castillo).
