You, as parents, guardians, and family, have the deepest impact on your children. In order for each child to grow in the best way possible, we have to work together. Our partnership lets your children know that the adults in their lives collaborate and communicate. Teaching each child to read, write, and mathematize is just as important as teaching them empathy, equity, respect, and responsibility. We want each child to think critically about their choices and how it will impact their life. We can do this as partners in your child’s life.
Communities Served
In admission, our school prioritizes families impacted by incarceration, Spanish-speaking families, and District 6 residents, but families from all districts and backgrounds are very welcome and encouraged to apply!
Castle Bridge Families live predominantly in the surrounding neighborhood of Washington Heights, and some live in Inwood, Harlem and the Bronx. Students arrive each morning by foot, scooter, bike, bus, subway & car. Our school is racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse, with families with a wide range of backgrounds and experience. While many of our families speak Spanish and/or English, some speak Arabic, Mixtec, Albanian or other languages as well. A shared commitment to a progressive, dual-language, culturally responsive & anti-racist education brings us together in community.

At Castle Bridge we have seen our children grow in a safe environment where they have learned to be empathetic and respectful to all the people around them. Castle Bridge is NOT a traditional school. Here children learn by playing, creating, sharing, and helping their friends. During project time they develop different skills than they wouldn't learn sitting in a regular classroom.

Some of the reasons I chose Castle Bridge is that the school supports and educates the whole child, not only their intellect. They have kids with all abilities in the same classrooms which develops unity. Teachers help children learn to be in charge of their learning. Teachers and staff listen to the students. Family Involvement opportunities
It is with the support and engagement of families that Castle Bridge students learn and grow. We are so grateful to be able to welcome families back into the school building after pandemic restrictions of previous years. Family involvement can take a wide variety of forms:
Supporting students in preparing for recital, reading together, completing homework
Attending family conferences with your student’s teachers
Attending and occasionally participating in weekly student recitals (optional)
Joining our whole-school Community Sing to start each week (optional)
Joining a weekly family update session from our Principal (optional, evening/zoom and morning options)
Diligently collecting toilet paper rolls for cardboard construction at project time (optional)
Chaperoning for Forest School or field trips (optional)
Volunteering to organize or support Family Association events and celebrations (optional, weekday and weekend times)
Serving as a class parent, on the Family Association leadership team or the School Leadership Team (optional)
Attending a Family Association meeting (optional, evening/zoom and morning options)
Ustedes, como padres y madres, tutores y miembros de la familia, tienen el impacto más profundo en sus hijes. Para que cada niñe crezca de la mejor manera posible, tenemos que trabajar juntes. Hacerlo unides les permite a sus hijes saber que les adultes en sus vidas colaboran y se comunican. Enseñarle a cada niñe a leer, escribir y hacer cálculos matemáticos es tan importante como enseñarles empatía, equidad, respeto y responsabilidad. En el proceso de admisión, nuestra escuela prioriza a las familias afectadas por el encarcelamiento, las familias que hablan español y los residentes del Distrito 6, ¡pero las familias de todos los distritos y orígenes son bienvenidas y las invitamos a solicitar su inscripción!
Las familias de Puente del Castillo viven predominantemente en el vecindario circundante de Washington Heights, y algunas viven en Inwood, Harlem y el Bronx. Los estudiantes llegan cada mañana a pie, en scooter, bicicleta, autobús, metro o automóvil. Nuestra escuela es diversa racial, étnica y socioeconómicamente, tiene familias con una amplia variedad de orígenes y experiencias. Algunas de las razones por las que elegí a Puente del Castillo son que la escuela apoya y educa a los niños en su totalidad, no solo se enfoca en su intelecto. Niños con diferentes habilidades comparten el mismo aula, lo que ayuda a que se desarrollen como una unidad. Los maestros ayudan a los niños a aprender a estar a cargo de su aprendizaje. Oportunidades de participación familiar
El apoyo y la participación de las familias ayuda a que les estudiantes de Puente del Castillo aprendan y crezcan. Somos muy afortunados de poder darle la bienvenida a las familias nuevamente al edificio de la escuela, después de las restricciones que tuvimos durante los años de la pandemia. La participación familiar puede tomar una gran variedad de formas:
Apoyar a les estudiantes en la preparación de su recital, leer juntes, completar la tarea
Asistir a conferencias familiares con les maestres de su estudiante
Asistir y participar ocasionalmente en los recitales estudiantiles semanales (opcional)
Asistir a nuestro Canto Comunitario para comenzar cada semana con toda la escuela (opcional)
Asistir a la sesión de actualización familiar semanal con nuestro director (opcional, de manera virtual/Zoom, por la noche o presencial, por la mañana)
Recolectar cartón y otros materiales reciclados, como rollos de papel higiénico, para hacer manualidades en Tiempo de Proyectos (opcional)
Acompañar a la escuela en paseos como ir a la escuela forestal (opcional)
Colaborar como padre de la clase, en el equipo de liderazgo de la Colectiva Familiar o en el Equipo de Liderazgo Escolar (SLT, por sus siglas en inglés) (opcional)
Asistir a reuniones de la Colectiva Familiar (opcional, de manera virtual/Zoom, por la noche o presencial, por la mañana)
