Brooklyn Resilience
Now in its seventh year, the 2021 Brooklyn Borough Arts Festival bears witness to the tumultuous and, at times, traumatic experiences our students have faced during the COVID-19 crisis. It has been an unprecedented time of anxiety and adversity in which we witnessed the call for activism in opposition to injustice and witnessed the courage of those who dared to speak the truth.

It has been an unprecedented time of anxiety and adversity in which we witnessed the call for activism in opposition to injustice and witnessed the courage of those who dared to speak the truth.
The uncertainty of school schedules and hours of home instruction left many feeling the isolation of facing a world of monotonous screen time, alone. The absence of normal routines led to nostalgic thoughts and a longing for simpler times when we enjoyed attending school, greeting friends, and seeing distant relatives.

We have all endured a long, dark winter blanketed in layers of snow feeling relief would never come. Then, suddenly, with the coming of spring we witnessed the miracle of early flowers forcing their colorful petals through the ice, bringing with them the hope of warmer and brighter days ahead. Through it all, our students have stayed the course, put their imaginations to work, and faced the challenges with the courage, resolve, and strength that are characteristic of Brooklyn Resilience.
