Year one have been learning all about their local area - Stratford. We used Alice Melvin's fantastic storybook, 'The High Street' to learn all about the different types of shops that people might visit. We enjoyed comparing the shops in the book to our own high street. Whilst we could not visit our local high street in person this year, we zoomed into shops via videos that our teachers made. In our classrooms, we have practised following maps, acted out different roles in the role play area and completed lots of independent writing during COOL (choose your own learning) time. In our project lessons we initially focused on map reading and geographical positional language. Towards the later stages we have been focusing on developing our oracy skills, through critiquing and redrafting, to ensure our product is clear and informative. Click on our shops to delve inside and find out what we have learnt!
We have made an interactive map of Stratford High Street!
