Year 2 have been learning all about water around the world and how it moves around our planet. At the start of our learning journey, we learnt about the 7 continents and 5 oceans that make up our planet. We then investigated coasts around the world, including different coasts in the U.K and learnt about different things we might see there. After learning about oceans we learnt about how rivers transport water through land towards the sea. Finally, we began exploring how all the water on the Earth is constantly recycled through the water cycle. By investigating evaporation, condensation and precipitation through Science, we built up the knowledge to create our own scientific posters illustrating this process. We even developed our illustration and water colour skills to create professional drawings. A detailed diagram and a chronological report make up our final product.
A lot of our skill development this term was taught via video tutorials. The children have responded really well to following the videos, using them to evaluate their work and to show kindness to their friends. Here is an example of a video lesson we used:
We learned watercolour techniques and refined them using feedback protocols. When critiquing each others work, students were encouraged to look at: size of features, colour, light, space, and texture to give meaningful feedback to one another to help them improve. We were so impressed with the quality of feedback and how each student used the advice of their peers in order to improve their next draft.
