This term Year 3 have been learning about South Africa. We learnt about the geographical features, the culture, the people and their history. In their project based learning lessons, the children have researched information and explored areas of interest to create their own scripts showcasing their knowledge of South Africa. They then uploaded digital images to match the text and create their own advertisements in small groups. They redrafted their scripts based on peer feedback and self-reflection. Each group focused on geographical features and added two or three other areas that they have explored. The final product is an advertisement-style presentation with images of South Africa and the children's amazing persuasive voices telling us reasons why South Africa would be a great destination to visit.
Here are our final drafts for our products.
In class we started our project by comparing South Africa to The United Kingdom. We looked at the different cities, geographical features (atlas/map reading), climate and languages spoken in both countries and how they are different or similar. We then got into groups and collated our ideas together to write a short advert script on why people should visit South Africa.
For our final drafts we used the Puppet Pals app on the Ipad to create a short advert about the amazing features in South Africa.
To really immerse ourselves in our product we completed work about South Africa across the curriculum. We used the text, 'Journey to Jo'burg' in English to learn about Apartheid through a child's perspective. We also compared similarities and differences between South Africa and the UK.
Have a look at our first drafts of our scripts here! Can you spot what changes we made for our final product?
Here is an example of a Venn diagram from Cameron and a beautiful report from Shaniya (as they were absent during filming).
