Are there enough well represented female characters in video games?

I think that the amount of female gamers are slowly increasing but there are still some issues. I think there should be more female characters as the main part of video games, this is because there are more male main characters in video games. Female gamers are not respected as much as male gamers, which I think this is wrong because they should be treated equally.

Today in 2020, there are a few female characters in video games and hopefully in 2021 the amount will make a difference more and would increase. I think that the respect for female characters and gamers should increase at the same time as well as this has not been making a difference, this is because of the quote: ‘‘Women are now able to become soldiers on the front lines for real, yet it seems impossible to get them into virtual warfare,” says Pratchett. “It’s a sad day when imagination is lagging behind real life.”

In real life females are still not respected as much, especially female gamers. They get lots of hate for enjoying themselves which I believe that this is not right and that this should change. On youtube most female gamers get not nice comments saying that they shouldn’t be playing games just because of their gender. Both genders should be respected whilst being a gamer.

In 2013 it was recorded that only about 45% gamers are female. 90% of all Video game characters/protagonists are male. By contrast, under 50% of all games have a playable female character, and this role is often minor (a single chapter or scenario), or the number of female options is limited compared to the number of male options.

This is proof that there are less female gamers, characters and protagonists, which is not equal.

People are having arguments about adding more female game characters. People want more female protagonists in video games, not only women are fed up with this in real life but also some males. In 2011 most female characters in video games looked similar and not that unique.

I hope by 2021 that the amount of female gamers, characters and protagonists will increase and be treated respectfully and equally.
