Although the rise of female game characters is slowly rising, there are still many issues. Many people still want female protagonists in video games and more female NPC’s. There are way more male protagonists and NPC’s in video games. There have been a lot of controversies lately about the lack of playable female characters in popular game franchises. By contrast, under 50% of all games have a playable female character, and this role is often minor (a single chapter or scenario), or the number of female options is limited compared to the number of male options. In 2013 it was recorded that only about 45% gamers are female. 90% of all Video game characters/protagonists are male. In my opinion I think that there should be more female protagonists and NPC’s in video games. In 2009 there were about %10 of females in video games. In 2011 most female game characters looked almost the same and not unique and many people were mad about this. In video games there should be both options for male and female players and tons of ways to costume the character you play as. Hair, clothing, face features, height, weight etc. I think a lot more people should take this seriously because a lot of women that play games don’t feel accepted and feel that their voices aren’t being heard. For a women gamer choosing a female player makes them more confident in themselves.
In real life women are less respected, especially female gamers/streamers. Lots of Twitch and Youtube female gamers get looked down upon. Many of them get hate for what they do when they simply are just trying to enjoy themselves or doing their job. Most female gamers get threats and extremely rude comments on how they can’t play games. Some comments on female gamers say that they shouldn’t play games just because of their gender. That’s very wrong in my opinion, I think both genders deserve respect.
“Women don’t play RPG’s or action games”
This statement is very untrue. I myself and many other women play RPG’s and action games and I really enjoy them. I think people should stop thinking that all girls are way too “girly” to play video games and should respect them for what they love.
I hope in the future that games will have way more women protagonists and NPC’s and that women get respected more for what they love.
