English

The English curriculum integrates four essential language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In order to further strengthen students’ language proficiency, school-based reading and writing curriculum have been developed. To encourage our students to learn beyond the class, e-learning and project- based learning are also our focuses of the subject development. Students can learn English in a language-rich environment through active participation in meaningful and interesting activities, by which the four essential language skills are effectively applied and integrated. We aim to provide a joyful learning environment for our students to foster their interest in learning English.

Reading:

To enhance students' reading abilities and encourage them to read English books, various programmes and schemes are organized such as Primary Literacy Programme-Reading (PLP-R), Reading Across Curriculum (RaC), Extensive Reading Scheme (ERS), Morning Reading Scheme, Classroom theme-based reading corner and On-line reading programme.

Writing:

To equip students' writing skills in a systematic way, our writing curriculum in Key stage one and Key stage two are closely connected, from developing syntactic structures to genre-based technique with both narratives and non-narratives included. Students are highly engaged with self assessment, peer assessment, and editing during the writing process. Inter-class writing competition is organized every year to motivate students to write creatively and to promote peer learning by voting for the good works.

Speaking and listening:

Students have opportunities to develop and enhance their speaking skills in their daily lessons, and also through the oral classes, English Day, English Funland and other English extra-curricular activities . The deployment of Native-speaking English Teachers also helps establish a valuable language-rich environment.
