Project Zephyrus began in the spring of 2024 as the catch-all scientific ballooning mission for the Devil Dragon Balloon Team. It is named for Zephyrus, the Greek god of the gentle wind from the west, and the son of Eos, the Goddess of the dawn. The name is a nod to the unwavering support that our program has received from The Bay School's Near-Space Balloon Program, currently flying under Project Eos. Zephyrus missions fly student projects, publicity payloads, and proof-of-concept flights for engineering designs and larger scientific missions.Â
