Georgetown K8 is on the road to becoming a STEM certified school! Part of this process includes the incorporation of Power Hours into our schedule. Power Hours are a time when students can concentrate on a STEM project. All of our grade levels participate in STEM Power Hours on the second and fourth Friday of each month. This website is dedicated to displaying the students work created during our STEM time.
The Design Process is a step-by-step method to creating a solution to a problem. Much like the Scientific Method or the Writing Process, the Design Process is a revolving process of creating, testing, and improving on your ideas. Students at Georgetown use the design process for their STEM projects.
There are 7 steps to the Design Process:
ASK: Students ask questions to identify a need in the community
RESEARCH: Students conduct research to learn what they do not know about their project
IMAGINE: Students create notes about all of the possible solutions to their problem
PLAN: Students create a design and a plan for completing their project
CREATE: Students create/build the product which will be the solution to the community need
TEST: Students test their build to see if it works the way that it is supposed to and if it fulfills the need they identified
IMPROVE: Students reflect on their experience and analyze how they can make their product better
