The following are elective classes available for the 2024-2025 School Year.
This entry level course will provide students a chance to knock on the door of Chinese culture. Students will get a glimpse of enriched Chinese Culture through various forms like storytelling, nursery rhymes, audio or hand crafts.
The course provides the chance to get a glimpse of two Chinese classic novels, Journey to the West & Romance of Three Kingdoms. Students will understand well-known plots and characters in the stories in the form of storytelling, animation, drama and crafts.
Calligraphy combines the literary component of text with the visual elements of art. Students will enjoy the ancient art starting with the basic calligraphy knowledge and techniques.
The course will provide students extended conversation practice, plus introduction to Chinese culture through the various forms like storytelling, audio and hand craft.
This course offers lessons in Chinese handicrafts, including origami folding, clay molding, paper cutting, calligraphy, Chinese painting, and more. Through interactive exercises, students will learn to appreciate the beauty of Chinese arts.
This beginner course offers the basic skills of Chinese brush painting. Students will started to learn how to appreciate the symbolic expression of a plant, landscape, animal or trees and to draw by using the minimal brushstrokes.
Learn knitting techniques and introduce the traditional art of knitting, and then practice knitting various styles to let your imagination create unexpected finished products.
This class teaches Chinese folk dance. Students will participate in various community events and the New Year Celebration Performance. (Dress/Prop fee will be collected in class)
Tailored for students in grades 3-5, this course enables students to begin by listening to the teacher narrate stories from picture books, facilitating the learning or review of common vocabulary words. Following this, they participate in enjoyable competitive games utilizing this vocabulary set. This class is especially beneficial for students seeking to fortify their language and literacy fundamentals.
Geared towards students in grades 3-6, this class introduces a new set of idioms and their applications each week. Students enhance their understanding of common words through teacher-led explanations, accumulating idioms to participate in engaging competitive games. Participation in this course necessitates students to possess a solid foundation in listening and speaking skills.
Designed for students in grades 3-6, this course presents a Chinese mythological tale each week. The teacher initiates by helping students comprehend the story's main characters, background, and its significance to traditional culture and beliefs. Subsequently, captivating animations aid students in understanding the storyline, leading to text-based games or craft for plot review. Proficiency in listening and speaking skills is essential for enrollment in this course.
To accommodate the different writing styles in the Chinese AP exam, students will learn how to reply to an email appropriately and describe an event precisely. Students will also have the chance to practice the words/phrases in the correct way.
This class is for students who are planning to attend the AP exam and want to have an overview of all the cultural topics. Students are strongly encouraged to experience all the topics occurring in the Chinese AP exam. This introductory class provides a solid foundation before students take the exam.
This course is the foundational course for students who are considering taking the Chinese AP exam in the future. Students will have a chance to familiarize themselves with the content of the exam and learn basic strategies. This course is available to junior high and high school students who are not planning on taking the Chinese AP exam this coming May.
In this preparation class, students will familiarize themselves with the content of the Chinese AP exam and learn step-by-step strategies that will help them master the AP Chinese exam in May. This course is only available to students in 9th grade and above and for students planning on taking the Chinese AP exam in May.
This class teaches Shaolin and Mantis forms of martial art. Students may participate in various community events and the New Year Celebration Performance. (Uniform is not included)
Chinese Yoyo is an ancient Chinese toy which is also known as Chě Líng. It’s thousands of years old and still popular today. Students in the course will learn professional performing skills through a lot of really cool moves that people haven’t seen before. This is a very unique heritage for all students learning Chinese culture.
This class teaches students basketball skills and team spirit. (Limited to 30 students each class). **Sunday morning sessions only
This class trains students in badminton skills and sportsmanship. (Limited to 16 students each class, bring your own racquet). **Sunday afternoon sessions only
