Human Centered Design
Course Number: 912 Meeting Times: 2 days/week, 1 semester/half year
Credits: 1/4 Grades: 10-12 Prerequisite: None
Course Description
Students learn the basics of how to create innovative products and services for others while being introduced to the basics of the design process. Students learn fabrication as a necessary tool to communicate their ideas and explore different types: prototyping, 3D printing, laser cutting and woodworking. Students apply this knowledge to a capstone project.
Curriculum At A Glance
Through a series of projects, students learn how to create value for others; how to communicate their ideas through prototyping; how to test and Iterate a prototype; and how to pitch so that others understand their ideas. At the end of the semester, students are challenged to find solutions for real problems, brainstorm solutions and create prototypes, which they pitch to the class. See the photos below for some solutions to storage problems in the Design Lab that were built by previous year's classes.
