Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

The Helen I. Smith Elementary School Multi-Tiered System of Support is an interdisciplinary team consisting of teachers, counselors, and administration.  Our Data Team develops and monitors strategies for pupils experiencing academic and/or behavioral difficulties at school.  It is a school service for classroom teachers who feel that a team approach may be helpful in discussing and developing solutions to better support students' needs in the classroom.  It is an approach based on sharing and caring and has been a distinct benefit in helping many of our children to progress.

The NJTSS Committee serves pupils by:

• Providing support and guidance to classroom teachers.

• Coordinating the access to and the delivery of school services for children.

• Planning and providing for appropriate interventions for struggling students.

• Actively involving parents and guardians in the development and implementation of supports to assist students in the general education classroom.
