At our school, we're all on the same team, working together to create a supportive and positive learning environment. This means taking responsibility for our actions and choices, and treating each other respectfully.
With that said, everyone makes mistakes – it's part of the learning process. When students make a mistake, it's an opportunity to learn and grow. Teachers and staff are here to assist students to understand what happened and make better choices in the future.
Respect is the foundation of a positive learning environment. We show respect by:
Following teachers' instructions and completing assignments to the best of our ability.
Being mindful of noise levels in hallways and classrooms, allows everyone to focus on their work.
Keeping our hands and feet to ourselves, and using kind and respectful language with classmates and staff.
Taking responsibility for our belongings and cleaning up after ourselves.
Taking care of all school property, including books, materials, equipment, etc.
Use appropriate language at all times.
Maintain a positive attitude and participate actively in class.
Disciplinary procedures are in place to ensure that all students are held accountable for their actions. The purpose of these procedures is to promote positive behavior and to create a safe and orderly learning environment for all students.
Minor infractions will be addressed by the teacher.
More serious infractions, such as inappropriate physical contact or disrespect to staff, may result in a referral to the principal's office.
Disciplinary action includes, but is not limited to, verbal warnings, written warnings, detention, suspension, or exclusion from classroom or school activities.
The school will work with parents and guardians to address student behavior issues.
Lunch/Recess Detention
Supervised lunch/restorative recess detention may be held for students who do not follow school rules. Parents/guardians will be notified.
After-School Detention
During all full-day schedules, detention may be held throughout the week from 3:00-4:00 pm.
▪ Students and parents/guardians will receive notice before students have detention
Suspension
Students may be denied the right to attend school for a period of time pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:37-2, N.J.A.C. 6A:16-7.2, and 6A:16-7.3, and District Policy 5610.
Students assigned to suspension are responsible for all classwork. Teachers will provide work for the student which the student must complete during his or her suspension. For any out-of-school suspension, a parental conference is necessary before reentry.
Any suspension will remain in effect until the beginning of the next school day. All students assigned in-school and/or out-of-school suspension are prohibited from participating in school-based activities during the suspension. Students suspended out of school are not permitted on school grounds until the next regular school day after the completion of the suspension.
Care of School Property
Students will show respect for school property (books, desks, and any other school property), by keeping this property in good condition and refrain from inflicting damage. Damage to school property is subject to a monetary fine, and disciplinary action.
Cafeteria/Recess Rules
Listen to teachers and supervisors: They are there to keep everyone safe and ensure a fun recess for all.
Be respectful and safe: Treat everyone with kindness, including classmates, teachers, and staff. Avoid inappropriate physical contact with others.
Clean up after yourself: Throw away trash and put equipment back in its place.
Stay within designated areas: Don't wander off or leave the playground or school grounds/ cafeteria without permission.
Resolve Conflicts Peacefully: If you have a disagreement with a classmate, use kind words to work it out. If you can't solve it yourselves, find a teacher or staff member to help.
Code of Conduct Infraction Chart
Records of infractions are documented by the Teacher/Staff Member using the Genesis student information system. Following the Nurtured Heart Approach, consequences for infractions are paired with restorative measures to help students learn from mistakes, repair harm, and build positive relationships.
