Saddle Brook Graduation Requirements

The Saddle Brook Board of Education has established the high school graduation requirements listed below. These requirements are aligned with the New Jersey Department of Education graduation requirements. All Saddle Brook High School students must have earned a minimum of 120 credits in the areas listed below aIn order to graduate from Saddle Brook High School and receive a state-endorsed diploma, the following requirements must be met: 

1. All Saddle Brook High School students must have earned a minimum of 120 credits. 

  97.5 of those credits must be in the areas outlined by the State of New Jersey and can be found by clicking here. 

2. Sit for and pass the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment (NJGPA) during 11th Grade:

• Score 450  in Mathematics to pass

• Score 450 in English to pass

3. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or complete the waiver. 

Additional Information: 

• No credit (full or partial) will be given for a course unless a passing grade of D or better is achieved AND the student was present over 90% of the course meeting days. 

• Students must be scheduled for a minimum of 30 credits per year. 

• Students must earn 30 credits per year to move up a grade level. 

  • 9th Grade Status: Less than 30 Credits

  • 10th Grade Status: 30 - 59 Credits

  • 11th Grade Status: 60 - 89 Credits

  • 12th Grade Status: 90 or more Credits

High School Graduation Assessment Requirements for NJ

Students must take and demonstrate proficiency in grade 11 on the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment, which includes content aligned to the grade 10 New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) in ELA, and the NJSLS in Algebra 1 and Geometry. If after completing the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment a student does not demonstrate proficiency on the ELA or mathematics section, the student may retake the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment in the following summer or fall.  A student with disabilities whose IEP states that they are not eligible for the alternate assessment (Dynamic Learning Maps) must take the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment in grade 11. First Pathway - Take and pass (450 or higher) the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment during 11th Grade in both English and Math

Second Pathway (only available to students who completed the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment during 11th Grade) - Meet the approved cut scores on a substitute competency test such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer

Third Pathway (only available to students who completed the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment during 11th Grade) - Meet the criteria of the NJDOE Portfolio Appeal
