Class Description
Dystopian Literature uses analysis and evaluation of novels, short stories and nonfiction articles as the foundation of the course. The focus of the course is a survey of dystopian literature examining the style, features, modern connections, and themes of dystopian literature. Each unit contains, in addition to representative literary works, an emphasis on historical events, philosophical developments, and cultural context that influenced the writers of each period and their readers. Major selections include Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Brave New World by Aldoux Huxley, and dystopian short stories from a variety of authors and time periods.
