SBLC's commitment to SDG 8 is specifically manifested through our comprehensive focus on employee welfare and development. We strive to be an employer of choice by establishing high standards for fair labor practices. This includes ensuring equitable compensation that meets or exceeds the required standards, providing robust health and social protection benefits, and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace in all our facilities. Furthermore, the College is deeply committed to the continuous professional development of our personnel. We offer development programs, training opportunities, and support for advanced studies, ensuring our staff's skills remain current and that they have ample opportunity for career advancement. By fostering a culture of respect, fairness, and inclusion, and by providing mechanisms for grievance resolution and open communication, SBLC ensures that "decent work" is a lived reality for every member of our academic community, driving both institutional success and individual prosperity.
SBLC’s comprehensive policy framework demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting non-discrimination in employment and equal pay for work of equal value, both of which are critical to achieving decent work for all. By enacting the Safe Spaces Act policy, SBLC explicitly prohibits and penalizes Gender-Based Sexual Harassment (GBSH) for all employees across all physical and online environments. This establishes a truly equitable and safe working environment, directly tackling a severe form of gender-based discrimination. This dedication ensures that employment opportunities are inclusive and not restricted by gender, thereby fostering the full, equal participation of all personnel, which is essential for sustainable, inclusive economic growth.
The University reinforces its ethical labour practices through its formalized Policy Against Modern Slavery and the Responsible Outsourcing Policy. The Modern Slavery policy takes an immediate and effective measure against forced labour, human trafficking, modern slavery, and child labour within its institutional operations and supply chains. Crucially, the Responsible Outsourcing Policy extends this commitment to all external partners and contractors, mandating that outsourced workers must be guaranteed the same rights as SBLC’s own employees. This dual approach ensures comprehensive adherence to both national and international labour standards, guaranteeing safe and secure working environments and robust labour rights protection for all workers engaged by the institution, regardless of their employment classification.
Furthermore, SBLC's dedication to procedural fairness and the full exercise of labour rights is institutionalized through the Employee Appeal Policy. This policy, which grants all employees the right to appeal a final disciplinary decision, ensures that due process and transparency are fundamental elements of the workplace disciplinary system. By guaranteeing the right to file a formal appeal to the President, the University promotes a culture of trust and fairness, which is inextricably linked to fostering a productive and high-value-added working environment. This overall framework—encompassing non-discrimination, human rights in supply chains, and due process—is crucial for sustaining the kind of ethical and high-quality employment practices that align with the highest levels of institutional productivity and decent work.
