Fostering Economic Self-Reliance
SBLC's Digital Entrepreneurship Initiatives
We remain steadfast in our dedication to Sustainable Development Goal 1 by actively empowering communities through inclusive, transformative initiatives. This core principle guided our decision to provide local start-up assistance via a free webinar on October 28, 2023, titled “Foundations of Entrepreneurship: Unlocking Success: Navigating Digital Transformation & Marketing for Philippine SMEs.” We commit to the spirit of sustainable development by directly addressing a critical root cause of poverty: the pervasive lack of economic opportunities and essential skills. Our objective is far more profound than offering a temporary fix; we are focused on fostering long-term financial stability and ensuring social sustainability. We achieve this by equipping individuals with the practical tools and expertise to create sustainable income streams independently, thereby promoting economic self-reliance rather than dependence.
This particular program proved especially beneficial for students from lower-income families, as it provided access to essential, high-demand knowledge—specifically digital marketing strategies—at absolutely no cost. For these aspiring entrepreneurs, our free, highly accessible education effectively dismantled a significant barrier to entry: the often prohibitive cost of formal business training and professional development. By acquiring expertise in effectively navigating and leveraging the digital landscape, they are strategically positioned to launch and successfully grow financially viable businesses. This knowledge transfer is a powerful mechanism, enabling them to ultimately break the cycle of poverty not just for themselves but also for their immediate families and broader communities.
The overarching goal of our institution in implementing and promoting this entrepreneurship program is to make a tangible, significant contribution to poverty reduction within our service area. We operate on the foundational belief that by nurturing a new generation of businesses that are both socially responsible and financially sustainable, we are simultaneously building stronger, more resilient local economies from the ground up. This focused effort moves us decisively toward the global development target of eradicating extreme poverty for all people everywhere, transforming potential into prosperity one local start-up at a time.
We conducted the comprehensive webinar titled “Foundations of Entrepreneurship: Unlocking Success: Navigating Digital Transformation & Marketing for Philippine SMEs” as a clear action in line with our dedication to Sustainable Development Goal 1. To ensure everyone could join, we held the event online via Zoom and Facebook Live. Expert Ms. Nadia Padilla-Vaila shared key tips on Digital Marketing, and Mr. Rene Boy Bacay, BSA, MBA, PHD, covered the essential steps businesses can take to use Digital Tools. We support SDG 1 by addressing the lack of access to crucial business knowledge through free education. By offering this complimentary, valuable training, we actively help our participants—especially those with limited financial resources—to significantly improve their business skills, opening up better and fairer access to ways to earn money and find resources.
This program benefited students from lower-income families. Usually, specialized business and online training is costly, creating a massive obstacle for these aspiring business owners. By making the entire program free, we removed this cost barrier, giving them access to the same high-quality information others pay a lot for. This free education in online marketing and digital tools is vital; it gives them the modern skills they need to start a business and ensure it lasts and grows in today's digital world. This new ability is a powerful way for them to earn a steady income and dramatically improve their family’s financial situation.
The main goal of our school in running this training is to make a real and lasting difference in reducing poverty in the areas we serve. We strongly believe that equipping people with the knowledge to succeed in a world increasingly driven by technology is the most effective way to fight poverty in the long term. Every business that starts or gets stronger because of our training means a job is created locally, a family is pulled out of financial worry, and a step is taken toward a stronger, more balanced local economy. Through these open-to-all and impactful initiatives, we are building a strong base for businesses that are both good for society and financially sound, moving us closer to the SDG 1 aim of ending extreme poverty for everyone, everywhere.
