We're deeply committed to advancing mental health awareness and good health and well-being, which aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3). To strengthen our resolve, we organized a free, impactful webinar titled “Breaking Barriers, Nurturing Minds” on November 10, 2023. This session was a key part of our commitment, featuring the expertise of Dr. Argel B. Masanda, RGC, RPm, LPT, RPsy. The webinar focused on educating our students about the critical importance of mental health and its intersection with gender and development. We emphasized the values of inclusivity and vital self-care strategies as foundational elements for a supportive community. We believe this initiative actively contributes to the SDG 3 target of promoting mental health and well-being for all.
The benefits our students derive from participating in this event are substantial. By focusing on mental health and its relationship with gender and development, we've provided them with crucial knowledge and tools to understand better their own emotional and psychological landscape, as well as those of their peers. Our students gained a more inclusive perspective, learning how diverse experiences, particularly related to gender, impact mental well-being. Furthermore, the practical emphasis on self-care empowers them to adopt positive habits and coping mechanisms, helping them to manage stress, build resilience, and seek help when necessary. These are skills that extend far beyond the academic setting, nurturing a generation of emotionally intelligent and well-adjusted individuals.
Our ultimate goal at SBLC in promoting good health and well-being is to foster a campus environment where every student can thrive holistically—academically, socially, and emotionally. We aspire to normalize conversations around mental health, thereby reducing stigma and encouraging an open, supportive culture. By integrating mental health awareness with topics like gender and development, we are not just providing a service; we are building a foundation for a truly inclusive and equitable educational experience. Our commitment is to continuously champion initiatives that promote the physical and mental health of our community, ensuring that SBLC is a safe, nurturing space for all minds.
