Algorithms & Programming
3-5.AP.12 Create Programs that include events, loops, and conditionals.
All programming requires functions to communicate an event within the program. Often times an event is needed to repeat itself, so programmers create loops of code to perform a function. If, then, are conditionals that tell the program to react in a variety of ways depending on the event that is triggered by the conditionals. To integrate 3-5.AP.12 into English Language Arts, students will program events, loops and conditionals that correspond to the classic tale of The Three Little Pigs. Students will then write their own story that includes events, loops and conditionals and then utilizing programs like Scratch to program a retelling of their story.
Three Little Pigs: Identify the Event, Loop and conditionals.
Kodable provides kid friendly tutorials on various coding concepts.
Once students understand the concepts, they can write their own story and bring it to life through Scratch.
