Outward bound was an experience as rare as they come. We walked into the course with mixed emotions as two teenagers oblivious to the opportunities around us, but returned to our homes with our entire lifestyles flipped around for the better.
From the cold showers every morning to the long tramps, each and every moment at Outward Bound put us a step closer to being the best versions of ourselves in terms of character, work ethic and having an overall love for our people.
Over the 7 days, we faced moments of self conflict and there were often activities that required mental determination, but the support and encouragement from our peers was undeniably a power that helped us overcome.
Two things we were consistently reminded of by our instructors were the sayings “Live in the moment” and “Be grateful for things big and small.” We thank our instructors Jeremiah and Alice for constantly pushing us into the forefront of change and instilling these morals in us, whilst also nourishing our spirits and prioritizing our safety.
Thanks to them along with our watch members, we developed a home-like connection to Anakiwa and everything surrounding it.
Lastly, we thank our careers department, Mr Faamoe and Ms Bull, for entrusting us with this privilege and sharing with us the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones.
Above all, it is to everyone involved that we owe our gratitude, for we now stand firm and ready to face whatever life brings.
Sheppard 704 forever.
