Talking to Your Student About COVID-19
Just like with everything else in life, your student probably already knows more than you realize about COVID-19. Between talking with friends, information spread on all forms of social media, clips from any news sources they may have seen, and what they have learned from the adults in their lives, they probably have some idea of what the virus is and the effect it is having on our community right now. Our advice is always to be upfront and honest with your student. There is a lot of information about COVID-19, new information coming out every day, so there is no way for anyone to know everything about it. You can only tell your student what you know--explain that. Let him/her know you are learning about this virus too at this point. This article from Harvard Health was very insightful and one that we thought gave parents good tips and information without going overboard.
