This practicum and internship course allows the students to apply academic and career readiness skills in a workplace environment (Heninger Elementary School). Instruction will combine standards-based classroom instruction with extended on-site industry experience. Students will learn all aspects of Professionalism and apply 21st Century Skills of Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity and Problem Solving in a real world setting.

*Class Participation – Students are expected to attend class on time every day (This includes classes that take place at Heninger Elementary School). Unexcused absences and tardies may negatively impact your grades or makeup opportunities for assignments, tests, and quizzes.
Late Work
Assignments and homework must be turned in on time to receive full credit. Classwork, homework, projects, and essays turned in late will receive ½ (HALF) credit. Assignments will no longer be accepted after the completion of the current chapter/unit. Please keep track of due dates in your planner or calendar.
Make up Work
It is the student’s responsibility to complete all make-up work, including classwork, tests, quizzes, and projects. Students must obtain make-up work on the day they return to school. Students will be given one day for each day of an excused absence to make up the work for full credit. Missed assessments (tests/quizzes) will need to be re-scheduled with the teacher within one week of the missed test date. It is the student's responsibility to discuss and request a make-up test date.
As a Professional Intern in this program, students are required to demonstrate and practice career skills. This includes, but is not limited to:
Informing Ms. McKeeman (ASAP) of inability to attend scheduled class visitations at Heninger Elementary (on time or completely). This allows Ms. McKeeman time to inform the collaborating teachers and administrators who expect and plan for interns' attendance & support.
Checking in for visitations on time and returning to campus on time. This demonstrates professionalism, organization & time-management skills.
Wearing appropriate attire, in accordance with school dress code, and always wearing a visible SAHS badge while on Heninger campus. This demonstrates professionalism and workplace ethics.
No cellphones or other items that may cause distraction or disruption may be used during internship visits at Heninger.
Completing and submitting all classwork on time & discussing with Ms. McKeeman any questions, concerns, or inabilities to do so. This demonstrates responsibility and integrity.
Maintaining passing grades in all classes.

Dress Code
Students must adhere to the following:
Clothing must cover from armpit to armpit, have shoulder straps, and cover most of the abdomen. Undergarments must remain covered at all times.
No see-through materials, bare midriffs, halter tops, off-the-shoulder or low-cut tops, or shorts/skirts shorter than mid-thigh.
Only Santa Ana High School (SAHS) hoodies are allowed. Hoods may only be worn outdoors if it’s raining.
Only SAHS-approved hats or caps may be worn. Hats/caps must be removed indoors. No beanies, bandanas, or hair nets.
No slippers, flip-flops, or backless shoes. Shoes must be enclosed or have heel straps.
Socks may not be pulled up to meet the bottom of shorts.
No wallet chains or belt buckles with logos/initials related to weapons, drugs, or sexual content.
No jerseys or shirts with team logos (non-SAHS).
Hair must be clean and neat; no dripping or spray-dyed hair.
No clothing, jewelry, or personal items with:
Crude, vulgar, or profane language/images
Sexually suggestive content
References to drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
Gang symbols, initials, OC/SA in Old English font, or racial/ethnic hate speech
Sharp or spiked jewelry
Violation
1st - Given loaner clothing; parent contacted and documented.
2nd - Given loaner clothing and a mandatory parent conference
3rd - Parent brings replacement clothing & meets with admin.
4th - Student is sent home for the day
Discipline – Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own behavior. Students who display a lack of self-control should expect teacher-directed discipline measures such as: cell phone/device confiscation, student-teacher conference, seating change, and/or in-class behavior contract. Chronic discipline problems will be dealt with according to the school’s progressive discipline policy.
Academic Honesty – All incidences of ‘cheating’ will result in 0% grade for project/assignment/test (this includes ALL forms of plagiarism).
Formal Essay Writing - All formal work should be typed (font 12 Times/TNR is preferred and will make me happy. Plus it’s MLA format). DOUBLE SPACE ALL Formal ESSAYS and work!
