The Wind Ensemble at Sauk Prairie is made up of the most proficient woodwind, brass, and percussion performers at Sauk Prairie High School. Auditions are held each April for the following school year and are open to all qualified musicians at SPHS. Approximately 40 student performers make the Wind Ensemble the most select wind band offered at SPHS.
Many students in the Wind Ensemble also perform in various regional honor groups, including the Sauk County Honors Project, Badger Conference Honors Band, and the Wisconsin State Honors Band. All students perform solos, duets, and other small ensembles at the Wisconsin District and State Solo and Ensemble festivals each year. The Wind Ensemble performs 3 concerts per year, which are open to the public and free of charge.
The Sauk Prairie Concert Band is our non-auditioned concert ensemble. Concert Band is made up of approximately 40 highly qualified woodwind, brass, and percussion performers at Sauk Prairie. The group rehearses daily from September through June and presents 2 concerts annually.
All students in the Concert Band perform solos, duets, and other small ensembles at the Wisconsin District and State Solo and Ensemble festivals each year. Students in the Concert Band also make up the Sauk Prairie Pep Band that performs at home sporting events throughout the year.
Percussion Ensemble is a group that caters to the specific needs of a percussion learner. This group meets for 68 minutes during the school day from September through May. Students within the percussion ensemble will develop skills based on six key areas of percussion performance. They include: Rhythm Development, Chops, Rudimental Percussion, Mallet Percussion, Timpani, & Drum Set.
Percussion Ensemble will perform 3 concerts annually and will also perform at solo and ensemble festivals.
