I knew at an early age that I wanted to be a teacher. As a young girl, I spent many hours playing school. After graduating high school I attended Plymouth State University where I received my undergraduate degree in Child and Family Services. After that I received my first career related job in 2009 working as a paraprofessional at John Fuller Elementary. While I worked in that capacity, I completed my master’s degree in Education. In 2011, I acquired my first teaching position as a third grade teacher. Since then I have also taught  in a 4/5 multi age classroom.

Teaching literacy is my passion. I love to read and to have meaningful book talks with students. I enjoy reading YA novels, historical fiction, and fantasy book series. Although I’m not much of a writer, teaching writing is my favorite! One of my goals is to help each student use their creativity and voice in their writing while teaching them strategies and the writing process. Our writing community is a special place that encourages all students to feel safe, have fun, collaborate, and make connections.  ~ Mrs. Hodgkins~

Hello! My name is Marianne Keith and I'm very excited to be a 5th Grade Classroom Teacher at John Fuller Elementary.

Born and raised in southern New Hampshire, I attended Keene State College, completing a B.S. in Environmental Anthropology. I've always sought out meaningful work that positively impacts people and the planet. I aupaired in France for a year after college, tutoring and caring for two young boys, while improving my french. Then I moved to the western United States, where I lived and worked for seven years, mostly California, but also Arizona and Washington. I served as a crew leader for a Conservation Corps, but as much as I loved building trails and restoring ecosystems, I wanted to work with children and help them foster a love of learning and stewardship for our planet. I shifted to non-profit environmental science education and worked for the next five years managing and instructing classroom and field based immersive programs to grades K-6th. I enjoyed my time in the classroom so much that I decided to go back to school and become a classroom teacher! While researching programs, I worked as a 1st and 5th grade Teaching Assistant at a school in Oakland, CA.

We moved to Maine in March 2022 and I started University of Southern Maine's Graduate Teacher Preparation Program that same year. I completed my program in May 2023, continuing the family tradition by becoming a third generation educator in New England.

My husband, our two dogs (Kenobi and Keeley), and I love adventuring to new places and exploring nature by hiking, camping, kayaking, and snowshoeing. You can also find me running on the local trails with the dogs, training for the next race. I also love to craft, read, and listen to podcasts.
