Supplemental Goodness

Paul Andersen lists major evidence for the existence of evolution. He begins with a discussion of Charles Darwin and the evidence that he presented in the Origin of Species, including biogeography, fossils, and homologies. He also explains how DNA evidence can be used to trace evolutionary history.

Crash Course Biology #20 - Hank gets real with us in a discussion of evolution - it's a thing, not a debate. Gene distribution changes over time, across successive generations, to give rise to diversity at every level of biological organization.

Things you should make sure you understand:

(feel free to ask questions about them in class)

  • How the major aspects of evolutionary theory are similar to all other scientific thoughts in terms of how they have developed, and how they depend upon evidence.
  • How alternate ideas related to the origin of life on Earth are not supported by science.
