Weather Systems, Global Weather Patterns, Extreme Weather, Anatomy, and Astronomy
In sixth grade students are introduced to the processes and procedures found in a scientific classroom. Students will be studying, researching, and exploring the topics of weather, human anatomy, and astronomy.
Weather
In our weather unit, students work to understand and examine local and global weather patterns and systems, while evaluating the role weather events play in shaping and creating a habitable planet. Students also look at different weather predictions and patterns, such as cloud formation, high and low pressure systems, and meteorological signs incorporated with weather forecasting.
Anatomy
In our Anatomy unit, students start with the basic building blocks of the human anatomy with cells. Then move onto the different tissues and organs found with the human body and how each one functions individually while examining the purpose it serves. Then students put all this information together to evaluate several body systems.
Astronomy
In our Astronomy unit, students look at the relationships between our Earth, the moon, and the Sun and why it causes different events here on Earth such as tides and seasons. Students then investigate natural phenomena such as black holes, supernova, gas clouds and the formation of stars and galaxies using their understanding of physics and universal laws.
