Mr. Saucier Class notes 

October 30, 2026

We spent the week working with factors and multiples in math, and we worked learning more about the middle ages and the different groups of people during this time. Next week will be a short week with conferences. I look forward to seeing everyone at their conference. 

We had a great celebration for Halloween today, thank you to everyone who sent items in and helped make this a fun afternoon. 

Reading: This week we learned more about the middle ages and different groups like lords, serfs, knights, craftsmen, monks, and nuns. We also started an opinion writing saying which group we would belong to. 

Math: In math we worked with factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers and did some more subtraction work.

Mr. Saucier’s Class notes October 23, 2026

This week was a great week in class. Students learned more about the middle ages, we worked with different methods to subtract in math and discussed school expectations. 

Reading: This week we read and learned about life in the Middle Ages and how towns began and what it was like to live in a castle. We also learned about nouns and adjectives, and did some writing.

Math: In math we worked with subtraction strategies and began talking about multiplication concepts. 

• Halloween:  On October 30th we will take some time to celebrate Halloween. I have some activities planned with the class. If you would like to help provide a treat/snack for the class please let me know. Items sent in need to be store bought and we are trying to have a mix of healthy and sweet treats so please let me know what you would like to bring so I can keep track. Students will be allowed to wear their Halloween costume if they choose. We are not able to have them change so if they choose to wear it they need to have it so it can be worn most of the day or put on over their school clothes which could be done after lunch. Also, please no full face masks or weapons. Please let me know if you have a question about this. It is also a P.E. day at 8:30. 

• Parent Conferences: These are coming up on November 3rd. If your time does not work, please let me know so I can find a new time with you.

• Book Order: I sent home the October book order last week, if you would like anything please order by October 30th. 

• Popcorn: The PTA sent home order forms for popcorn. Please complete this and send it back if your student would like popcorn during the year.

Mr. Saucier’s Class notes October 16, 2026

This week went by very fast, the class did well as we began our unit on the middle ages and continued with adding and subtracting in math.  We also finished some work with sound vibrations in science. 

Reading: This week we read about the Middle Ages and how the Roman Empire collapsed. We also learned about different groups of people during this time and the jobs they all did. 

 Math: We worked on adding and subtracting large numbers and word problems. 

• Parent Conferences: These are coming up on November 3rd. Your confirmed times went home last week. These will be in person if you asked for that or I will schedule using google meet and email those links the week before. If your time does not work, please let me know so I can find a new time with you.

Mr. Saucier’s Class notes October 9, 2026

We had a nice week working on finishing and sharing our personal narratives. We also worked with addition and subtraction in math and learned about patterns and sound in science. 

Reading: This week we wrapped up our personal narratives and shared them with each other. We enjoyed a celebration today where we shared our stories and played Candy Land together. 

Math: We spent the week working on adding and subtracting with multi digit numbers and doing some math problem solving.  

Parent conferences: I sent home a notice with the times for this on Monday. Please let me know if you have any conflicts.  

• Assessments: I want to take this time to remind you about our grading in 4th grade. We use competency grading. NYC means not yet competent, C means competent, B is beyond competent, and A is advanced competent. You will see these grades on your student’s assessment work. In math you will see a 1, 2, 3, or 4 based on the level of skills. Level 3 is the grade 4 standard we are looking for to show they have learned the skills. We will discuss this more at parent conferences. 

• School Store fundraiser: This began this week, you can return the lanyard and students get a book buddy friend. 

• Art contest: I sent home a flier about a drawing contest from Readworks, check this out if your student wants to enter you have all the information to sign up on the form. Students can access this website through their clever and google accounts.

Mr. Saucier’s Class notes October 2, 2026

We had a nice week working on our personal narratives. We also worked with addition in math and learned about patterns and sound in science. 

Reading: This week we continued to read about Peg’s time with polio and worked on writing our own personal narrative stories. We look forward to finishing this work next week.  

Math: We spent the week working with adding large numbers and doing additional work with place value and rounding as we worked on some more levels ups for this standard. 

Parent Communication Rooms: Please use rooms to check out class updates and message me if needed, or use my email to get in touch with me. 

Parent conferences: If you did not sign up on the form I sent home last week please do this ASAP. 

• Field Trip: We had this trip today and had a great time. Thank you to our chaperones.  

• PTA Fundraiser: This runs for one more week, thanks for your support. 

• Bottle Caps: We are collecting these until the end of October, please send them in to be added to our bucket. 

• Reading and Math Calendars: Next week with homework, you will see a reading and math calendar. This is just to log how much time you spend reading and how much time you spend on math homework. I will collect them at the end of the month. 

• Log in card: This week I sent home a card with your students google account information and the log in for some websites. If you are able, your students can utilize the programs at home.

Mr. Saucier’s Class notes September 25, 2026

We had a good week focusing on our personal narratives, rounding numbers, and starting some science.  

Reading: This week we continued reading personal narrative stories and began a story about Peg who was diagnosed with polio. We also spent lots of time working on writing our own personal narratives about an event in our lives. 

Math: We spent the week learning and working with comparing numbers and rounding numbers. 

• Parent Conferences: These will be coming up on November 3, 2026. Please see the sheet with today's letter and pick a time to meet.  (If you signed up at open house you are all set.) 

• Assessment reports: Today you will find two reports one for the beginning of the year reading fluency and the beginning of the year I-ready math report. This is so you can see where your child is at this point of the year. 

• Website: I also have a google website which I keep updated and has lots of resources. This can be found with my name on the East Rochester School website under the staff page. 

• Field Trip: We will take our first field trip, Friday, October 2, 2026. See the letter with more information. 

• PTA Fundraiser: The PTA helps us pay for many things at school so any help with this is greatly appreciated. This ends October 9th.

Mr. Saucier’s Class notes September 18, 2026

We had a busy week working on some writing and working with place value and comparing numbers. Everyone did great with their math testing this week and we celebrated Constitution Day on Thursday! 

Reading: This week we focused on reading different personal narratives and identifying character traits, sensory details, and working on paragraph writing. 

Math: We spent the week learning and working with place value and looking at comparing and adding numbers. 

• Field Trip: We will have our first field trip to Great Bay Discovery Center on October 2, 2026. Slips went home this week, please return ASAP. 

• Parent Communication Rooms: I am using the communication platform with the district called Rooms. This can be accessed by using the district SAU54 app. Please log in and check it out, if you have questions please email me at saucier.d@sau54.org or send a note in your child’s agenda book. 

• Grading- Our district uses a competency based grading system. If your child receives a “C” that means they are competent and at the level 4th graders need to be at. We will discuss more as I send more work home, but I wanted to make sure you knew that the “C” is a good grade. If your child has an “NYC” meaning not yet competent grade that means we are continuing to work on those skills to get to the C level. Please let me know if you have questions. Homework and some class work is counted as completed or not with a check, check plus, or check minus and reflects on students' work skills grades. Also, with the pathfinder math model I will be using, math will be graded on a 1-4 scale. We will discuss this at parent conferences in November. 

• Scholastic News: These orders have been sent home, please take a look and order books online. It helps me buy new books for the class as well. Order by September 25th. 

• PTA Fundraiser: Please help sell some items and raise money for our PTA. This goes until October 9th.

Just like that we have finished the first two weeks of the school year. This week everyone did a nice job working on school expectations, doing our first reading and math lessons, and starting our dibels. Monday we will take our beginning of the year math assessment. 

Reading: This week we began our unit on personal narratives. We learned about the parts of a paragraph and wrote about memories in school. 

Math: We spent the week working on routines and expectations for math. We worked with rounding and adding numbers. 

Parent Communication Rooms: I am using the communication platform with the district called Rooms. This can be accessed by using the district SAU54 app. When on the app there is a section titled rooms, when you go into this section you should automatically be entered into Mr. Saucier's class. You can see announcements, information, and message me privately here. Please log in and check it out, if you have questions please email me at saucier.d@sau54.org or send a note in your child’s agenda book. 

Math Pathfinders: I will be piloting an adjusted way to teach math this year. This model will focus on the math skills and I will teach overall skills then work with the class in smaller groups to show me what they know. Please see the letter in this folder which goes into more detail about this. 

• Field Trip: We will be taking a field trip October 2nd, I will need parent chaperones that were finger printed last year and went on a trip or school event. Can you please let me know if you were finger printed last year? If you submitted the volunteer form for this year the SAU office will be in touch when you can get finger printed. 

• Constitution Day: We will celebrate and learn about the US Constitution on the 17th. 

• Scholastic News: These orders have been sent home, please take a look and order books online. It helps me buy new books for the class as well. Order by September 25th.

Mr. Saucier’s Class notes September 3, 2026

Well the first week of school has come and gone already. We had a great week learning about each other and getting to know how 4th grade works. Your students are coming home with a Friday folder. This folder will be sent home every Friday with work students have completed and any notices or paperwork that needs to be returned. I will also send home class notes weekly which will include information about our week and announcements for upcoming events.

Band: Today we had an assembly about the band program, please check out the forms your student came home with and let me know if you have questions about signing up. 

I-ready Diagnostic: Our class will work on our I-ready diagnostic on September 14th. This is our beginning of the year math checkin to show us where they are at. Please help your students get ready for this with a good night's sleep and breakfast. We appreciate your help with this. 

Forms: Thank you for completing the forms that were sent home this week. If you did not have a chance to complete these please do so and send in next week. 

Parent Communication: I will be using the district platform Rooms for communication this year. You can access this through the SAU54 app. Please find information on the ERS school website or email me at saucier.d@sau54.org. You can also always send a note in your child’s agenda book with any questions or concerns. 

Birthday Celebrations: Due to food allergies, our school has a no food treats policy for birthdays. Families are welcome to send in non-food treats. Please let me know if you have questions. 

PTA: Their first meeting is Wednesday, the 16th at 6:00pm.

Welcome to Mr. Saucier’s 4th Grade Class!!!! 

My name is Mr. Saucier and I am so excited that we will work together in 4th grade at East Rochester School. I hope your summer has been full of time outside to enjoy nature, time with family, and a few friends. I will want to hear about your summer when you return so enjoy, relax, and be ready to share. 

I have enjoyed my time off with my family camping, swimming, and relaxing. I wanted to share a bit about myself. I just finished my 17th year teaching and my 8th at ERS. My wife Erin and I live here in Rochester with our daughters, Hannah and Peyton. We have two cats named Scout and Oreo who keep us busy. I can not wait to meet you and learn more about you and your family as well this year. 

I am sure you are getting excited for the start of a new school year. 4th grade is always a great year for students and I am so excited for the fun activities we will get to do together. I know you are excited to get supplies for the year so here is a list of what you will need:

1 Box of 12 - #2 pencils

1 box of 12 or 24 colored pencils 

1 Folder for homework (This folder will go home every day)

Zipper pouch for pencils (optional)

1 pair of headphones- for use with chrome books (headphones if you are able, the earbuds do not stay in the student’s ears.)

Other helpful items: 

1 box of tissues, 1 roll of paper towels, 1 bottle of cleaning wipes, 1 bottle of Hand sanitizer 

 (I provide some folders and supplies such as markers, rulers etc. The last 4 items on the list are to help keep our classroom a clean and healthy environment. Please do not get pencil boxes- they do not fit in the desks.)
