Things We Did This Week - September 30 thru October 4

1. We took the Math NWEA test on Wednesday. A few classmates finished it on Friday while others got started on the Reading NWEA test. Make-ups will be next week for anyone who needs to finish the Reading test.

2. We elected our class representative and alternate for student council: Olivia and Rosie! We had a huge number of classmates who ran - everyone worked hard on their posters and speeches and were very excited to share them!

3. The Hollis Fire Department visited us to talk about fire safety in public buildings as well as watts of energy.

4. We had our first WING awards! 3 of our classmates earned their Behavior, Academic, and Social Wings: Lauren, Eliza, and Rosie!

5. We celebrated Jake's birthday with delicious chocolate-covered pretzels sprinkled with sugar!

6. We worked together in partnerships to create Google slideshows which shared what we know we can do to protect our environment! This followed our learning in social studies about renewable and non-renewable resources.

3 Things We Did Today - October 7

1. We got caught up on any Tiger Rising reading responses from the first 3 chapters.

2. We started a new topic in math - multiplying in multiples of 10, 100, and 1,000!

3. Partnerships are finishing up their Google slides to share with others their ideas on how to keep our earth clean and healthy!

One more thing: New Hampshire posters came in today and WOW they are amazing!! We can't wait to share them!

3 Things We Did Today - October 8

1. We shared our NH posters today. The kids did such an awesome job with this project, with presenting, and with complementing one another! They are now beautifully displayed all around our classroom!

2. We read two new chapters in The Tiger Rising, Chapters 4 and 5. We reviewed chapters 1 through 3 and had a great conversation about the content in chapters 4 and 5. Then, students completed 2 reading responses.

3. We are back to estimating in math - this time for multiplication! The class did a nice job rounding to 100 and 1000 with the factors.

3 Things We Did Today - October 9

1. We continued with our NWEA test in the Science Lab - this was for reading. Almost everyone has completed it!

2. We learned about the distributive property in math - just breaking apart numbers to make them easier to multiply. This is a preliminary step into traditional methods of solving multiplication equations.

3. We read chapters 6 and 7 of The Tiger Rising and are working to complete some reading responses after excellent class conversations.

3 Things We Did Today - October 10

1. Some students had NWEA to finish, so they went with Ms. Keegan's class while those from her class who were finished joined us! What a fun learning morning we had, with everyone spread out around the classroom, working on their own assignments and helping each other out!

2. We started sharing Google slides with our classmates, to present ideas on how to keep Earth healthy and thriving.

Things We Did During the Weeks of October 14 - 25

1. Our Student Council representatives presented a "Hawk Box" they made which will house any and all ideas our 4th grade classmates have about things we can do as a school to make it even more FUN! All ideas are welcome and all ideas matter!

2. We enjoyed our first gem party celebration with a Pajama and Fuzzie Friend Day!

3. We have been working so hard during Math with the different properties of multiplication and applying those algorithms to word problems. It's a lot of work BUT these 4th graders can do it!

4. We have started learning about VOLCANOES! In groups, we plotted coordinates on a map to discover where the most active volcanoes are, which also revealed the ring of fire!

5. Mr. Daneau joined our class for our first guidance lesson!

6. 4th Grade won GOLDEN TRASH CAN - LUNCH EDITION! We were voted the cleanest grade level at lunch and earned a 30 minute extra recess with MRS. FOWLER!

3 Things We Did Today - October 28

1. We had our first of two field trips this week ... we ventured out to Little Red School House in Nashua!

2. We started our Topic 3 Math test!

3. We reviewed long i spelling patterns - i, y, i_e, igh, ind, and i. We identified some target words with these spelling patterns. Then we got together in partnerships to write a silly story about a tiger! When they are completed, the kids will read their stories to the class.

3 Things We Did Today - October 29

1. We continued with our math test. It is a LOT of work but the kids are doing a wonderful job!

2. We had Choice today!

3. We are halfway through Tiger Rising and seeing some major character changes! Students are encouraged to actively think and ask questions as we read and to post their thoughts/questions on our chart paper. There is some amazing thinking happening!

Things We Did Today - October 30

1. We read more of Tiger Rising today, which generated some awesome conversations about Rob's dad and Mr. Beauchamp- is THEY bullies, too? Why do we think that, what evidence is the story providing us that we're making connections?

2. We did an awesome volcanic activity today to determine what volcanoes explode and what kinds of lava they produce! Ask your scientists to teach you using these words: cone, shield, thick, thin.

3. We started a guided drawing Halloween project - witches! - the kids are LOVING IT!

3 Things We Did Today - October 31 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

1. We took a field trip to the Manchester Mills! We learned about pre-historic times all the way up through the inventing of the segway!

2. We finished our witchy paintings!

3. In math, we enjoyed some fun Halloween math with partners!

Something extra: WING awards were given out today! YAY for Jake, Olivia, and Claudia!
