February 2020

Awesome Things We've Done Through the Weeks of February 2-14

It has been a very busy 2 weeks - let's catch up!

1. In math, we finished Topic 5 and are now into Topic 6 which has us using all 4 operations to solve problems. We have to pay close attention to clues in order to figure out what operation is needed. We are currently working on the difference between multiplying and adding to solve for X.

2. We are in the 4th chapter of our new read aloud, The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: A Mysterious Howling. It was slow to start but now that we know WHO is howling, our curiosity has increased!

3. We completed Social Studies Chapter 5: Life in Colonial New Hampshire. Children are working in groups to finish their Colonial Village ads - they are spectacular! What great collaboration between the students! We also took the Chapter 5 test. We will be starting Science again, learning about different forms of energy!

4. We have started the Winter DRAs - Developmental Reading Assessments.

5. We decorated bags for collecting our valentines at our party on the 14th.

6. After reading Words and Your Heart, we started writing "love notes" to our classmates, which when finished, will be passed out to each classmate, so everyone will have 16 wonderful compliments - including one from themselves!! The notes will be used to make individual posters which the kids can keep as a souvenir from 4th grade.

7. We decorated small hearts that we then glued together to make a giant heart as part of our commitment to choose love.

8. We enjoyed a lovely Valentine's celebration with a card exchange into bags we'd painted the week before and delicious cupcakes, fruit salad, brownies, and fruit punch!

9. We are in the midst of writing love letters to .... OURSELVES! We are answering the question, "What do you love most about yourself?" in a letter to ourselves.

Have an amazing weekend! Spring isn't far away!
