During the 2018-2019 school year, a group of Grade 3 math students partnered with the Brookline Food Pantry to conduct monthly targeted donation drives at RMMS. These students are now 5th Grade students at CSDA! đź’™ đź’™ đź’™ đź’™
The students collected donations at both RMMS and various school-related events throughout the school year. With the hard work driven by this group of students, our school made a significant impact on the Brookline community! The group collected a grand total of 2,483 food and non-food items. The breakdown of the food items equaled 23,205.25 ounces of food, or 1,450.34 pounds of food! Detailed food pantry data for the school year can be found here.
The entire Grade 3 student population continued the RMMS Food Pantry Project during the 2019-2020 school year. Each month a different Grade 3 class performed math calculations on all of the donated items. We are so proud to continue our partnership with the Brookline Food Pantry on this project! Unfortunately, our school year and our donations were cut short due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
While the RMMS Food Pantry Project was put on hold during the transition to remote learning last spring, we are so excited to restart this project for the 2020 - 2021 school year! Starting in October, a Food Pantry Most Needed Items list will be sent home with students at the beginning of each month.
Our donations have dramatically increased since partnering with the Brookline PTO's Amazon Smiles Program!
We are embarking on the forth year of the RMMS Food Pantry Project! We continue to send home a Food Pantry Most Needed Items list with students at the beginning of each month. The current donation list can also be accessed by clicking here at any time. We partner with the Brookline School District PTO on the Amazon Smiles donation lists, and are very appreciative of their support!
New this year we added a Cereal Box Domino Challenge! We collected almost 700 cereal boxes during the months of October and November. On Monday, November 15th RMMS held our first ever Cereal Box Domino Fall! The cereal boxes were set up from one end of RMMS to the other. Students gathered in the hallways and watched as the boxes fell, domino style.
Thank you for your continued generosity and support, and for making a difference in our community!
