Math Fact Fluency, Strategies and Fact Practice

Math Fact Fluency

Math fact fluency is the ability to recall the answers to basic math facts automatically and without hesitation. Students should have 10 minutes of fluency practice each day - time simply devoted to practicing math facts.

Research shows that using strategies to learn facts results in a better understanding of math facts and a better attitude towards mathematics. We encourage the use of strategies for addition, subtraction and multiplication facts recall. This leads to more effective learning and better retention, as well as the development of mental math skills and number sense.
