Philosophy:
Track and Field is both an individual and team sport. Our goal is for each athlete to improve over the course of the season and over the course of their career. We focus on Personal Records or PRs for each athlete. When everyone is working at their potential, our team is successful. Our goal is to create a strong team culture where athletes feel supported and included. Sportsmanship is a key component of our team culture.
Practice:
Athletes should come prepared to practice every day. There may be times when we’re outside, so a track bag filled with key layers of clothing can make practice more enjoyable and productive.
Attendance at practice is expected every day. If an athlete is unable to attend practice, it is their responsibility to communicate this to a coach. Coaches' email contact information is listed on the Coaches page.
Meets:
Athletes are entered in events using a combination of athlete choice and coach discretion. Each of the Indoor Meets has a 40-entry limit. We aim to find events that allow athletes to experience the most success, help their team, and have fun. The events that athletes compete in may vary from week to week. They are encouraged to have discussions with their coaches regarding the events that might be the best fit for them. All athletes are encouraged to try new things throughout the season.
Athletes are expected to travel to away meets on the team bus.
If an athlete must travel home with a parent after an away meet, the parent must connect personally with the designated coach and sign their son or daughter out of the meet.
If athletes cannot compete in a meet, they should notify their coach as soon as possible, as meet entries will need to be adjusted.
Gear:
Athletes will be issued a uniform consisting of a singlet and shorts. During meets, they can wear layers such as compression pants, shorts, or shirts under their uniforms.
A good pair of sneakers is invaluable. A good, supportive pair of training shoes that fit well will prevent injury. Track shoes with spikes cannot be worn for competition at UNH or PSU. If athletes want to wear lighter shoes for racing, they can wear a racing waffle.
