About
Blue Hawk Track & Field Philosophy:
Track & Field is both an individual and team sport. Our goal is for each athlete to improve over the course of the season and over the course of their career. We focus on Personal Records or PR's for each athlete. When everyone is working at their potential, our team is successful. Our goal is to create a strong team culture, where athletes feel supported and included. Sportsmanship is a key component of our team culture.
Practice:
Athletes should come prepared to practice everyday. We are outside every day, so a track bag filled with some key layers of clothing can make practice more enjoyable and productive.
Attendance is expected at practice everyday. If an athlete is unable to attend practice, it is their responsibility to communicate to a coach. Email contact information for coaches is listed on the Coaches page of this site.
Meets:
Athletes are eligible to compete in meets once they have met the 10 practice requirement. Communication with coaches is key, please communicate via email why you are unable to attend practice and the coaching staff will make a determination regarding when you are eligible to compete.
Athletes are entered in events using a combination of athlete choice and coaches discretion. Our goal is to find events that allow athletes to experience the most success, help their team and also have fun. The events that athletes compete in may vary from week to week. They are encouraged to have discussions with their coaches regarding the events that might be the best fit for them. All athletes are encouraged to try new things throughout the season.
Typically, athletes are expected to travel both to and from away meets on the team bus and to remain at home meets until the end of the meet. Supporting your teammates is an important part of our team culture. This is an area that will continue to evolve as the season progresses due to numbers & transportation issues/restrictions. More information will be shared as we get closer to our first meet.
In the event that an athlete must travel home with a parent after an away meet, they must connect personally with the designated coach and sign their son or daughter out of the meet.
If an athlete is not able to compete in a meet, they should notify their coach as soon as possible, as meet entries will need to be adjusted.
Team Battlenotes will be compiled throughout the season. These Battlenotes are a depth chart of our teams and are updated after each meet to reflect each athlete's PR (personal record) in each event.
Gear:
Athletes will be issued a uniform, which consists of a singlet and shorts. They are able to wear layers such as compression pants. shorts or shirts under their uniforms during meets.
A good pair of sneakers is invaluable. A good, supportive pair of training shoes that fit well will prevent injury. Track spikes can be worn for competition and should be no longer than 1/4". Early in the season, we will be holding a Team Shoe Night at Runner's Alley in Portsmouth where experts can help select & fit shoes for our athletes.
Athletes should be sure that their clothing is labeled with their name. As practice goes on, the layers often come off. Labeling clothing helps it get back to its owner. If something is missing, athletes should check in the Track Shed.
Boosters Club:
We rely on the support of our team parents, our Booster Club, to help run our home meets as well as the Seacoast Championship Meet.
Our meet schedule can be found in the links under the Spring Tab. Home meets are listed on the schedule in bold print. We need parent volunteers to run a quick and efficient meet. We are looking for volunteers to measure and record distances in the jumps and throws. We are also in need of help raking jumping pits and replacing the bars in the pole vault and high jump.

Exeter High School hosts the Seacoast Championship Meet at the end of the regular season. This is an invitational meet for all schools in the Seacoast Region in D1, D2 and D3. It is a competitive meet and is well attended each year. This meet is our major fundraiser during the season. We raise money for our team through selling tee shirts and running a concession stand. We will be holding the Seacoast Championship Meet for the first time in two years!! We will be actively seeking sponsors for this meet - more information regarding sponsorship will be shared with athletes once our season gets underway.
