Students enter 1st grade with a very wide range of mathematical understanding and experience. Auburn Village School uses the Math in Focus program which offers students a very systematic learning progression where concepts are taught moving through a sequence of Concrete to Pictorial to Abstract. This approach allows students to visualize and develop a conceptual understanding of the math. This year your child will focus on:

Math in Focus has a great website which offers guides & tutorials, virtual manipulatives and student activities for each skill. Also, each unit has a parent newsletter which outlines the concepts and vocabulary your child will be using. Your child will be given a user name and password in the fall for the Math In Focus website.
