Welcome to 6th grade! I am so excited to work with you!
This year in Social Studies, we will study three broad topics.
After spending a couple of weeks practicing source evaluation, we will move on to our world geography unit. We will spend all of Trimester 1 and most of Trimester 2 on this topic. We will learn the physical geography of 5 of the world’s continents (Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, and Australia) as well as the history and cultures of the various ancient civilizations who lived on those continents. At the end of this unit, students will complete a research project on an ancient civilization of their choice.
The final part of the year will be spent on our Civics unit. We will learn about the origins of our government and how the 3 branches of our federal government operate.
