Homework

Homework is an essential way to practice skills that we are working on. This process helps your child become responsible and promotes independence. It is an integral part of the learning process. Part of this process includes encouraging responsible behavior with school work and assignments.

Homework in 3C allows children to have flexibility in completing homework. Students must read every day (at least 15 minutes) and should practice their math facts daily. See below for how to make reading more exciting if your child is reluctant. Other homework choices can be completed throughout the week when they best fit into your schedule.

Your job will be to sign their homework each week and help your child remember to return the homework on Friday morning (or the last day of the school week). In certain instances, it may become necessary to offer more support for students who are missing assignments from class. I am enlisting your help to assist your child in developing the organizational skills that will help them succeed in third grade and beyond.

Being involved in your child’s learning is an important piece to a successful year. Please partner with us in helping your child develop successful study habits. The use of a homework routine and a study spot is a great way to start. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.

How to “shake up” your reading time -

• Partner read - with a parent, sibling, or friend

• Read aloud - to your pet, parent, sibling, stuffed animal, etc.

• Choose a different spot - try reading in different places to find the best spot (examples: outside under a tree, in a dark room with a flashlight, etc.)

• Visit the library and check out some different types of books, magazines or audiobooks.
