The Quest Program has three high school faculty, referred to as Quest Advisors, who teach the coursework, manage the program, lead off-campus trips, and work alongside and mentor Quest students throughout the year.
Quest Team for SY 2024-2025, and SY 2025-2026
MS. MARE STEWART (She/HER)
lead teaching: English and social studies
Mare serves as the program's social studies advisor and lead English advisor; she teaches the (AT) Society, Governance, and Civic Action courses within Quest, and co-teaches the English Research course. She has served as the program’s AP Research coordinator since 2021. SY25-26 school year marks Mare's sixth year as a Quest Advisor, her 10th year teaching at SAS, and 18th year in teaching. In addition to serving as a Quest Advisor, Mare also serves as a co-sponsor for the SAS Executive Service Council (ESC), helping support SAS service community with 40+ service clubs and projects. Mare has also taught Grade 9 World History, AP Human Geography, and AT Geography and Fieldwork at SAS.
Before coming to SAS, Mare taught at Chadwick International School in Songdo, South Korea, and in STEM and International Studies magnet schools San Antonio, Texas (USA). Prior to becoming a certified teacher, Mare served as a U.S. Coast Guard Officer, and U.S. delegate for the U.N. International Maritime Organization. Her professional background in government, rulemaking, and policy allows her to bring in professional expertise to the social studies coursework Quest students engage with. Mare holds a B.A. in International Environmental Policy, from Warren Wilson College, and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a concentration in Environmental Education, from Lesley University.
Mare's husband (Devin Stewart) joins her in the high school as a member of the teaching faculty. Additionally, Mare and Devin are proud parents of two Quest alumni. More recently, their daughter (Maia), who is a former Quest student (2023-2024) and Quest TA (2024-2025), and recent graduate of SAS (2025), and will be starting her first year at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida (USA), majoring in environmental conservation in marine science. Their oldest (Sawyer) will be starting his senior year at Arizona State University (USA) finishing up his degree in Business. He participated in Quest during his senior year (Class of 2022). Experiencing the program as both an advisor and parent, Mare serves as the Quest parent liaison for Quest community events and parent communication.
Mare is looking forward to continuing with Quest in SY2025-2026, serving as the Quest program department chair.

MR. Robert Mijares (he/him)
lead teaching: math
Robert is entering his second year as an advisor for the Quest program in SY2025-2026. Robert serves as the program's lead math advisor. Robert shares a diverse background of experiences and expertise that range from filming in a Hollywood movie & building floats for the Pasadena Rose Parade to working with endangered species and teaching engineers and builders about environmental law as a Trainer of Record for the State of California. Prior to joining Quest, Robert taught math for four years and was also part of the team that led the Interdisciplinary and TRi Time Programs in the middle school.
All in all, Robert has 12 years of experience in education and 11 years as a Civil and Environmental Engineer. Before Singapore American School, Robert also taught Math and Science at three other international schools: Korea International School in Seoul, Busan Foreign School in Busan, and Country Day School in Costa Rica. As an engineer, Robert has designed sports parks, sustainable building projects, and most exciting of all, parking lots.
Robert has a Masters in Education from the University of Southern California (USC) and an Engineering Bachelors from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly-SLO). Robert is also a registered Civil Engineer for the State of California. Outside of school you can find Robert on the hiking trail, on the dance floor (Latin, Swing, Ballroom), or leading a community art class.
We are excited to have Robert continue as the Quest math advisor for SY2025-2026. We can't wait to see what opportunities this continues to bring for our Quest community next year!

MR. STEVE EARLY (he/him)
lead teaching: science
Steve joined the Quest team in 2024 after returning from a year-long sabbatical. The SY2025-2026 school year marks Steve's second year within the Quest program--and his 33rd year teaching at SAS!
Steve serves as the Quest science advisor and is SAS' resident expert in environmental science and brings with him decades of experience at SAS in both fieldwork and lab work and expertise in tropical ecology and overseas and field trip planning.
We are thrilled Steve will continue with the Quest program for SY2025-2026 and look forward to another exciting year of Steve designing and guiding student learning experiences on and off campus, starting with our Launch trip to Komodo Islands!
