SVHS Newsletter November 2021
SVHS Newsletter November 2021
November is here and it is hard to believe that we will be getting ready for our Thanksgiving break in just a few short weeks! I wanted to get a communication out to keep everyone updated on what is happening at SVHS.
NHS Tutors
National Honors Society members are now offering tutoring in the morning before school, in the Cafeteria from 7:25 - 8:00 A.M. No appointment necessary!
Picture Retakes
Interstate Studio will be at the High School on November 12th for picture retakes. Order forms can be found in the high school office.
Girls’ Basketball
The Girls’ Basketball season starts this month and we are excited to kick off the first season of TCSV basketball in Niantic! Coaches and players have been working hard in preparation and are all looking forward to a successful season.
Due to the Governor’s Executive Order, masks are required for all players and spectators. You are encouraged to bring a mask with you, but we will have them available at the door. It is important for us to follow the rules during games to avoid the potential:
Forfeit of games
Sanctions from the Illinois High School Association, and other state entities
Spread of COVID-19 and liability to the district as a result
Mask Mandate
The Governor of Illinois issued a mask mandate for all Illinois Schools earlier this month to fight the spread of COVID-19 and this applies to all students and staff regardless of vaccination status. Please make sure that you bring a mask in the morning and wear it appropriately throughout the day. If your student forgets their mask we will have some available in the office. If you are visiting the school for any reason, including indoor sporting events, coming to the office, etc. please remember to wear your mask.
We are all frustrated with the masks, but it is a rule we are required to follow at this time. We appreciate your help and support on this issue as we work to deal with all of the other issues we are experiencing due to the ongoing pandemic. This is not our rule and we are doing our best!
Keeping our COVID numbers down is very important for maintaining in-person learning and following these rules helps keep us from excluding more students in close contact situations. And as difficult as wearing masks has been for us, it pales in comparison to fully remote learning. I think I can speak for the majority of teachers, students, and parents by saying we DO NOT want to go back to remote learning!
Other mitigation measures which help greatly include:
Keeping symptomatic/sick kids home
Testing to determine alternate diagnosis from COVID-19
November 15th is School Board Members Day SVHS would like to thank our school board for all of the support, time, and effort! The Sangamon Valley Board of Education donates their time selflessly in the support of the school district to provide for the educational program and extracurricular activities offered to the students and staff of CUSD #9. Thank you board members!
